What's Your Sign?

When I started writing this blog, what I was hoping for was to stimulate comments from the readers. Not just comments like "I enjoyed this" (although believe me, I really appreciate it when people tell me they enjoy what I wrote), but I wanted to start discussions - people commenting on other people's comments. So this blog is a little different from the others - it is designed to give you the stimulus to comment.

Last Sunday in church, there was a drama. People walked across stage holding up a cardboard sign. They didn't say anything, just walked to the center of the stage and held up their sign. On one side of the sign was a statement about their past. Then they flipped the sign over to show a statement about their present - what God had done for them.

God is a redeemer. He takes lives that are messed up, full of hurt and pain and He redeems them and makes them into something beautiful. I've seen it in my own life and in the lives of so many others. Those two words, "but now", carry so much meaning. We don't have to be defined by our past.

If I could make a sign and display it for the world to see, what would it say? These would be mine:

I was blind, but now I see.

I was dead, but now I'm alive.

I was bound, but now I'm free.

I was a slave, but now I'm a child.

I was angry, but now I'm at peace.

I was unsatisfied, but now I'm content.

I was full of self, but now I'm full of the Holy Spirit.

What has God done for you? Or to put it another way, what would your sign say? I look forward to hearing from you.

  2. The comments are indeed important. I think most of us don't feel comfortable with commenting often! I do indeed meditate on what you have written, but I think "I have already commented." We needed your asking us to comment to motivate us!

I once saw the glass half empty
Now I see it more often half full

I once read the Bible to know the Bible
Now I read the Bible to know the author

I once wanted people to know me
Now I want to know Him

The list goes on. One thing about it: I am in the process of being changed.

  3. My biggest change I feel is the beginning of seeing people through God's eyes. I have asked the Lord to allow me to see people through His eye's and not mine. I no longer view people from the outside and now only see people from the inside. It has completely changed my outlook towards others and the urgent need to help the Lord in bringing the lost to know Him.

  4. I think that is is good to see in writing a list of the wrong or bad things of our past and now to see a list of the good or the right things in our lives. We dwell so much on the "What Was" and not on the "What Is".

  5. I missed this week in the church, because I had the 3-5 years during church. But afterwards when I walked in the church I knew I missed something. Thanks for explaining the signs.

Sin once had power over me but now I'm free from sin.
I once had a bad marriage, but God intervene and saved it.
I once was an angry person, but now I do not let satan have that stronghold on me.
I use to try to prove to God I was worhty of His love, but now I know I do not have to earn it. He gives it freely.
